Geinoh Yamashirogumi is one of the most remarkable amateur musical collectives of the modern era. The name
can be translated as the “Yamashiro Performing Arts Collective.
” The group began in 1968 under the leadership
of Shoji Yamashiro, who had been appointed conductor of a university-based vocal ensemble called Hato no Kai,
or “Pigeon’s Association.”
