Scenius Series present renowned saxophonist Dave Rempis, a leading figure in Chicago’s jazz and improvisation scene, in a dynamic collaboration with Giorgos Kokkinaris on double bass and Antonis Anissegos on piano.

The performance will take place on Wednesday, March 19, at 9:30 PM at Underflow Record Store.

Dave Rempis – saxophonist, improviser, curator, producer, and founder of the independent label Aerophonic Records – leads some of the most influential groups in Chicago’s jazz scene, including The Rempis Percussion Quartet, Ballister, and Kuzu. He has performed with legendary jazz musicians such as Peter Brötzmann, Roscoe Mitchell, Hamid Drake, and Joe McPhee. His background in ethnomusicology and Greek heritage have significantly influenced his music, which merges free improvisation with bold sonic textures.

As part of his European tour, and at the invitation of Giorgos Kokkinaris, Rempis will join two distinguished Greek musicians – Kokkinaris on double bass and Antonis Anissegos on piano – for a live improvisational performance, promising an evening of avant-garde musical exploration.

Prior to the concert, at 8:00 PM, an open discussion will be held in collaboration with NewMusic.gr and the contemporary music ensemble Áktafa. The discussion will focus on building and sustaining musical communities in the U.S. and Europe. Rempis, who has played a pivotal role in shaping Chicago’s jazz scene – through his work in education, artist networking, and international collaborations – will exchange insights with Kokkinaris and Anissegos, who have similar experiences in Greece (Athens, Thessaloniki) and Berlin. The discussion will be introduced by Alexis Raptopoulos, founder of the Scenius Series.
