MATMOS — Live in Athens

LOCATION

PLYFA

Date

For more than three decades, Matmos have been redefining what electronic music can be. The duo of Drew Daniel and M.C. Schmidt transform unexpected sound sources – from everyday objects and plastic materials to the mechanical rhythms of a washing machine – into intricate rhythmic and sonic structures.
Their work often unfolds through strong conceptual ideas, such as the acclaimed album “The Rose Has Teeth in the Mouth of a Beast”, where each composition is dedicated to a historical figure ranging from scientists to artists and queer icons.
Balancing precision, humour and radical curiosity, Matmos move between sound art, experimental electronics and playful sonic research, turning microscopic details into immersive musical experiences.
A rare appearance in Athens as part of the Scenius series.

Τheir most recent album, Metallic Life Review (Thrill Jockey, 2025), is built entirely from metal sounds — copper, steel and aluminium — shaped into a layered sonic landscape.

The choice of PLYFA’s industrial space acts as a natural extension of their practice: an environment where sound and material meet.

A rare appearance in Athens, as part of the Scenius Series.
